The minimum amount that the IRS requires you to take each year from tax-deferred retirement plans (excluding Roth IRAs) once you reach age 70 1/2. Generally, you must take your first RMD by April 1st of the year after you reach age 70 1/2, and by the end of the tax year in subsequent years.
